Ah, we have been abundantly blessed in so many ways. We have ALL been blessed in ways you may not even see as a blessing. As an example let me enlighten you on our chicken story… One day my dad got a call that there was a chicken farm giving away chickens for free! WELL my dad being my dad he naturally took my truck, put a camper shell on it and shoved 225 chickens in the bed of my truck. We gave some to friends and neighbors, but our chicken count was still 120 at the end of the day. You can image the eggs we were getting, dozens upon dozens that our little family of 5 could never eat. So we started giving them away to friends, neighbors, friends of friends and anyone who needed them, people kept trying to pay us or give us produce from their farms in return. We politely declined the generous offers, we consider this our blessing to give others what we have.
James 1:17 ” Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
Anything we have, anything we can do and anything we can give can be a blessing to someone no matter what it is. No matter how little you have there is always someone who has less, be thankful the Lord gave you what he gave you. Everything is His anyway, so why not give it to those who need it more than you? One day my grandpa was listening to his favorite radio swap and shop, a lady called in and needed a cheap car, she didn’t have anything except several kids and no vehicle, my grandpa jotted down her number, got in his spare car and asked where they could meet, he got there, handed her the keys and called one of us for a ride. SELFLESS. That is what we are called to be in this life. My dad gives his labor away for free and the use of his tools to anyone he knows, my mom trains runners in her spare time and give people confidence in themselves, my brother works on peoples cars all the time, my sister rescues dogs and gives anyone anything she has that they need and my grandma sends a friendly smile and a sweet hello to everyone she encounters.
2 Corinthians 9:6 ” Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.”
Don’t give for selfish reasons, don’t give in hopes of getting something in return. Give with a generous and happy heart. Whether you walk through a field and pick flowers for someone and make their day, or you give them something they could never give themselves, it’s all the same to God. Each blessing you pour over someone else allows glory to go to God.
Deuteronomy 15:10 “Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.”
