Too Quick to Speak

We have all done it. We judged a book by it’s cover and spoke our mind before knowing the full truth.  We as Christians are held to a higher standard in this world.  When someone says they are a christian they are automatically held under a microscope and observed.  In some ways this is wrong of anyone to do, but in other ways it keeps us accountable.  Something I have noticed more and more in the church lately is Christians judging too quickly, taking sides, not listening to any other side of the story and being the exact opposite of how God wants us to act.

John 8:3-11 “The teachers of the law and Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery.  They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery.  In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such woman.  Now what do you say?”  They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.

But Jesus bent down and started writing on the ground with his finger.  When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first one to throw a stone at her.”  Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left,  with the woman still standing there.  Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they?  Has no one condemned you?”

“No one, sir,” she said

“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

We speak too quickly and hurt others.  We judge before knowing the full story.  We don’t let anyone speak because we already know we are right.  What right do we have to condemn others if Jesus didn’t even condemn an adulterous woman?   When we see a fellow Christian in need why do we judge their situation based on how our life is going?  Everyone needs to feel needed.  If you have someone who is trying to help and you aren’t wanting to accept it, just swallow your pride and give in.  Let them help you, let them fulfill what God has told them to do.  If your the one who’s life is full of blessings then spread some of those around to others who might need it.
